Derrick wins Claxton-Stevens award for 2010

March 18th 2011

It was a dream come true to receive a guildmark for my olive ash chest of drawers from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.  However, when I received the news that I had also won the Claxton Stevens award for best guildmark piece for 2010 I couldn’t believe my ears.

Bespoke guildmarks are awarded by  The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers to furniture that represents excellence in design, materials, craftmanship and function. Since 2000 an average of 12 bespoke guild marks are awarded each year.   The company then judge all the pieces that have received guildmarks for that year and award one piece the Claxton Stevens award for best guildmark piece.

My wife Justine and I attended the installation dinner held at the Mansion House where I received the award.  It was very magnificant and a night we will never forget.
