Two columns for a London hotel

Two columns for a London hotel

Derrick worked alongside local Norfolk furniture maker David Paddison to create two impressive 3.4 metre tall columns for a 5 star Hotel in London.  They were contracted to make two columns which open up to hang coats and a lectern to greet guests.  All three pieces were made to the architech’s specifications with an extremely tight deadline.

The construction is primarily lamenated 3mm MDF veneered with figured avodire and mahogony.  The sides are fluted.

The columns were put together and glued in the workshop and as they became the full 3.4 metre size moving them about became increasingly challenging.  When it was time to load up the columns on the delivery truck several strong persons were required as they weighed almost a tonne.

Once in place at the hotel they looked very impressive standing at either side on the door.
